PARSONS PARIS X KIKO KOSTADINOV
SPRING 2025
This project was a collaboration between Parsons Paris and Kiko Kostadinov. In the brief I was told to create a look using a uniform of my choice, and the brands identity as a starting point.
I started my process by researching a 1920s maid uniforms. In the 1920s being a maid was one of the few socially accepted forms of work a woman could do, but the hours were long and it payed poorly. This left little time for these women to do what they liked. Therefore, I began imagining what these women were daydreaming of while at work. I tried to think of something that could only ever be a dream to them, which led me into space exploration. I began researching modern day astronaut suits, and combined this research with my maid unifrom research.
With my research I aimed to create a look that would still register as a maid uniform but would make the wearer feel like they are in space. The result is a blouse and a pant set made from dead stock Kiko Kostadinov fabric. The blouse mainly includes elements from the maid uniform, such as a tie from the apron, pintucks, and lace, but I’ve added cutlines that resembles those found in a NASA suit. The pants resembles the bottom half of a space suit, but the details are created with techniques found in the maid aprons.
